Nick qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1980, becoming a ‘Fellow of The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales a few years later. He has been a Member of the Institute’s Tax Investigation Practitioner’s Group since its inception, shortly after the turn of the Millennium.
He is a specialist working on behalf of clients to resolve HMRC Enquiries and Investigations at all levels, whether it be a simple Tax Return omission, or a case of suspected serious Tax Fraud. Over the years he has built up a wealth of experience and is often asked to lecture on the varied and interesting work of a Tax Investigation Specialist.
Nick regularly appeared on behalf of clients in front of the General Commissioners and scored some notable achievements in those days, and since the introduction of ‘The Tax Tribunal System’, Nick has appealed on behalf of many clients, and gained some notable reductions in the Tax Liabilities being demanded by HMRC. His knowledge of how to navigate the complex world of Voluntary Disclosures, has enabled many Clients to fully mitigate what could have been substantial liabilities due to HMRC.
With this vast and varied experience, Nick ensures that enquiries are dealt with quickly, efficiently and as cost-effectively as possible for clients, and knows how to fight his client’s corner as and when appropriate. Nick thoroughly understands the enquiry process and is a specialist in attempting to find the most effective way to get HMRC to reach a conclusion which enables the taxpayer to get on with their life, or the business to get back to concentrate on being profitable.
